School of Human & Health Sciences

£40,266 - £45,147 per annum, pro rata

Permanent

0.8 FTE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Midwife to join the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise as a University Practitioner. This is a part-time post (0.8 FTE) that will enable the successful applicant to deliver an inspirational learning experience to our undergraduate students and apprentices alongside their midwifery practice.

The Department is one of three Departments in the School of Human and Health Sciences, offering programmes for nine health professions, sport and exercise. It is home to a range of established and new apprenticeships, pre-registration and post-graduate courses.

The University of Huddersfield is a thriving university, and our excellent facilities continue to expand with state-of-the-art teaching, research and clinical facilities on the National Health Innovation Campus.

We have a diverse student body and work closely with our public partnership group, health and social care, and education partners.

Huddersfield is a lively town, close to beautiful countryside and with excellent road and rail links to Manchester, Leeds, and Sheffield. In 2023, the University achieved a TEF Gold award, and its apprenticeship provision was graded as “Outstanding” by Ofsted.

This University Practitioner role is ideal for Midwives who are interested in educating the future workforce alongside clinical practice. You will work with experienced academic and professional services colleagues to develop and facilitate learners’ knowledge, skills and professional attributes on courses that are contemporary, future-looking, and which enable graduates to identify and manage the challenges of service users and service needs. Commitment to an innovative learner-centred experience is essential.

You will have current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Midwife. You will also have a Master's degree in a relevant subject, and you will be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (or required to work towards this within 12 months of the appointment).

You will bring subject and practice expertise in contemporary midwifery practice. We would particularly welcome applications from midwives with training and experience in neonatal and infant physical examination (or equivalent). The post also requires recent experience of teaching and assessing midwifery within a clinical or higher education setting.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.

As a Practitioner, we expect you to be actively engaged in practice in addition to your role at the University. This can be either through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.

The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Leader, Stonewall Top 100 Employer, Athena Swan Silver Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.

Informal enquiries about the role are welcome to Dr Jayne Samples via email: [email protected]
