Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic nurse to join our Clinical Haematology Specialist Nurse Team.
As a Haematology Nurse Specialist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients with a range of non-malignant haematological conditions. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will support patients throughout their treatment journey, promoting health, wellbeing and positive patient outcomes.
The role covers, inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory day ward settings. The successful candidate will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care for patients with a variety of haematological conditions, including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and other non-malignant haematology conditions. You will provide specialist support and education to patients and carers, whilst contributing to the ongoing development of the service and maintaining high standards of clinical care.
Main duties of the job
Provide expert clinical nursing care to patients with haematological conditions.
Assess patient needs, develop, and implement care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Administer treatments including blood transfusions, iron infusions, and other haematological therapies.
Offer patient education and support regarding treatment options, self-management strategies, and lifestyle changes.
Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary, ensuring best practices and evidence-based care are followed.
Take the lead in coordinating complex patient cases and act as a point of contact for patients and families.
Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.
Mentor and support junior staff, promoting professional development and high standards of patient care.
Participate in clinical audits, research, and quality improvement projects.
Job description
Act as a role model and expert nurse providing in-depth highly specialist clinicalknowledge to colleagues through MDT meetings, for patients and carers /relatives.
Participates in the supervision and the teaching of pre-post registration students,new staff members and junior medical staff.
Act as a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available, and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients in the speciality.
Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources.
Lead in consultations on and contribute to the development of strategies for delivering effective care within a changing environment that improves the quality of care and health outcomes in the specialist area.
When required take the lead in investigation of incidents / complaints including providing detailed reports / letters to complainants.
Act as an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues promoting an open and honest and transparent culture.
Demonstrate clinical leadership and challenge speciality and directorateboundaries to enhance and support the patients journey.
To identify and develop proposals and business cases as required for futureservice innovation.
Contribute and influence policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally, necessary to support the specialist nursing service.
Continually monitor standards of care through benchmarking, Nursing Charter Audits, Clinical Audit and tools such as Essence of Care, taking a lead when required.
Support and facilitate research ensure evidence-based practice in the specialist area.Disseminate good practice and knowledge by pursuing opportunities to presentwork at national conferences or via publications, encourage team members likewise.
