Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a newly established and innovative Haemoglobinopathy team atLondon North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. Following a successful bid, we have secured recurrent funding from NHS England via the Medical Technologies (MedTech) funding stream to enhance and sustain our current services.

This investment will support the development of an enhanced Red Cell Exchange service and expand capacity for Day Pain Management at the newly developed Ambulatory Red Cell Unit at Central Middlesex Hospital, serving adult patients across the North West London region.

This programme directly addresses the concerns raised in the "No One's Listening" report, tackling health inequalities and improving outcomes for patients living with haemoglobinopathies. We are recruiting for the position of: Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) - Haemoglobinopathy

We are seeking an experienced HCSW who has:

  • Exceptional venepuncture and cannulation skills
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Demonstrated delivery of compassionate, competent care
  • Exceptional communication skills

You will play a vital role in our multidisciplinary team, providing holistic, patient- centred care which is planned and directed by health care professionals. Support and continued professional development will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The HCSW will complete performance necessary patient care tasks delegated by a registered nurse or midwife, under their supervision such as undertaking personal care duties, record patient information and lead on a new dedicated Phlebotomy clinic.

Undertake personal and professional development activities to uphold care standards, such as completing the 15 standards of the Care Certificate and the associated workbook within a timeframe of normally 206 months from commencement of employment.

Follow all London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) policies and provide a safe and person-centred environment for the treatment of patients.

The post holder is responsible for delivering high standards of personal care, providing services in accordance with the Trusts values and behaviours to support the nursing team in the delivery of patient care which is safe and effective.
