Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established team of Community Children's Nurses in Birmingham. This is a city wide service that offers specialist nursing support to children & families with a variety of complex physical health needs.

We provide clinical interventions to children within their own homes, schools and other community locations. The service operates seven days a week and also provides an out of hours 'on-call' service.

If you are an experienced Children's Nurse with excellent clinical skills, have advanced communication abilities you may be who we are looking for to join our busy team. This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop rewarding therapeutic relationships with children & families in a community setting.

Main duties of the job

• Follow the NMC Code and professional standardsand take responsibility for your work.
• Providesafe, skilled and evidence-based nursing careto children at home and in community settings.
• Givehealth advice and educationto children and families to support healthy lifestyles.
• Help teachfamilies, carers and other professionalsso that care is provided safely and effectively.
• Carry outrisk assessments in children's homes.
• Getinformed consentfrom children, parents or carers before providing care.
• Keepaccurate, clear and up-to-date recordsof all care provided.
• Work closely withhospitals, GPs, community healthcare teams and other serviceswhen needed.
• Beflexibleto meet the needs of the service.

• Always maintain aprofessional attitudeand follow NMC standards and the organisation's policies.
• Workindependently and safelywhile following BCHC guidelines and policies.Travel to visit children and familieswithin the Birmingham area.
• Keep yourknowledge and nursing skills up to date.
• Take part inprofessional development and mandatory trainingrequired by the NMC and organisation.
• Support theteaching and mentoring of other staff.
• Take part inresearch and clinical audits related to the service.
• Help maintainhigh standards of care and patient safetythrough good clinical governance.
• Report anyconcerns or risks to the Team Leader, senior nurse or manager.

Job description

The post holder is responsible for assessing, planning and evaluating care under the supervision of the Team Leader. They are required to work in conjunction with paediatric palliative care team, supporting parents, carers and children with life limiting conditions in the terminal phase of their illness. To liaise with other professionals as guided by the team leader.
