The Building Control service is seeking to appoint a Building Safety Levy Officer to support the delivery of the new Building Safety Levy (BSL). 

This role plays a key part in ensuring the Local Authority meets its statutory obligations under the Building Safety Levy and contributes to improving building safety and keeping residents safe. You will be responsible for administering the end‑to‑end levy process and will work closely with colleagues across Building Control, Planning and Finance, as well as developers and other external stakeholders. 

You will be joining a professional and supportive team at an important time, supporting the implementation and ongoing administration of a new national levy. 

Main duties include: 

  • Determining Building Safety Levy chargeability and liability
  • Issuing levy determination notices and payment certificates
  • Receiving and processing levy payments
  • Carrying out spot checks, including measuring plans and checking exemptions
  • Supporting the review and refund process for developers
  • Preparing quarterly management information and revenue transfers
  • Acting as a point of contact for levy‑related queries
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with guidance and regulations 

Essential criteria include: 

  • Experience in an administrative role (local authority or public sector desirable)
  • Ability to interpret and apply guidance, regulations and procedures
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Basic mathematical skills to calculate levy charges and refunds
