Are you ready to make a change that makes a difference?

At City of York Council we have a variety of different roles that directly help people in our city to stay well, independent and to be themselves.  They’re all part of our adult social care service and play an important role in our journey to of continuous improvement.

We’ve got jobs covering a range of what we do – from supporting people day-to-day to leading services into the future.

And that means we need people from a diverse range of lots of different backgrounds with lots of different skills, experiences and perspectives.

Be part of something special in our city – for those looking for a change of career, already working in care and support services or just starting out and seeking a role with great career development opportunities.

The service

Adult Social Care supports people to live independently, remain connected to their communities and access the right support at the right time.

Strengths-based practice underpins what we do. We're motivated by empowering people to find solutions that work for them, striving to listen and enable, rather than direct and prescribe.  Our approach focuses on the positive attributes of a person's life and of neighbourhoods, recognising the capacity, skills, knowledge and potential that individuals and communities possess.

We are on an improvement journey following our CQC assessment of adult social care services (December 2025) which highlighted shortfalls in key areas including assessment and safeguarding.  It also highlighted strengths – committed staff, positive feedback about frontline workers, and effective community-based initiatives which help connect people to services and reduce isolation. The report recognised that our strategic ambition was evident, with transformation plans, a developing adult social care strategy, and improved partnership working taking shape.
