Are you an experienced compliance professional with a passion for building safety, regulatory assurance, and service improvement?

We are seeking an exceptional Compliance and Assurance Team Leader to join our Assets and Compliance Team. This is a key role responsible for ensuring that our housing services and corporate property services meet all statutory, regulatory, and landlord compliance obligations while driving continuous improvement across building safety and assurance activities.

Working closely with the Service Manager for Building Safety, Compliance and Assurance, you will lead a team of Compliance and Assurance Co-ordinators and Tenant Liaison Officers, providing expert advice, oversight, and assurance across a wide range of safety and compliance functions.

This is a varied and influential role where you will:

  • Lead and oversee compliance activities across the Council's housing portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with the Regulator of Social Housing's Consumer Standards and other relevant legislation.
  • Manage audits, quality assurance reviews, and performance reporting.
  • Oversee statutory inspection programmes including fire, gas, electrical, asbestos, legionella, and lift safety.
  • Support the production of regulatory returns, KPI reporting, and assurance reporting.
  • Champion a strong culture of health, safety, and compliance throughout the organisation.
  • Lead tenant engagement initiatives relating to building safety and compliance.
  • Manage difficult access cases and ensure statutory inspections are completed using robust and proactive approaches.
  • Line manage and develop a team of compliance professionals.
  • Deputise for the Service Manager when required.

We are looking for a motivated leader who combines technical knowledge with excellent people management and communication skills and can demonstrate:

  • Experience working within a safety, compliance, or building safety environment.
  • Experience managing and developing staff.
  • NVQ Level 5 qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent).
  • Level 4 Housing qualification or willingness to work towards achieving it.
  • Strong knowledge of housing consumer standards, health and safety legislation, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and present recommendations to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement.
