Job summary

About the role As a Bank GP, you will provide high-quality clinical care within the prison setting, undertaking face-to-face clinics, supporting reception health needs, reviewing long-term conditions, responding to urgent clinical queries, supporting prescribing decisions, and contributing to safe continuity of care. You will work closely with nursing, pharmacy, mental health, substance misuse and wider healthcare colleagues to deliver joined-up care for patients.

Sessions may include routine primary care clinics, new reception reviews, medicines-related queries, clinical administration, MDT contribution, supervision or advice to advanced practitioners and nurses, and support for escalation where clinical risk is identified.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities Provide safe, effective and timely GP care to patients in a secure healthcare environment.

Undertake assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and prescribing within professional competence.

Support management of long-term conditions, acute presentations, medicines queries and complex health needs.

Work collaboratively with prison healthcare teams, including nurses, ANPs/ACPs, pharmacists, mental health clinicians and substance misuse colleagues.

Contribute to clinical governance, audit, incident learning, safeguarding, complaints and quality improvement where required.

Provide advice, support and clinical escalation to colleagues within the multidisciplinary team.

Support, advise and contribute to the development of multidisciplinary colleagues, including providing clinical guidance to ANPs/ACPs, nurses and wider healthcare staff where appropriate.

Maintain accurate, timely and professional clinical records, including clear consultation notes, care plans, prescribing decisions and escalation actions, in line with Trust, prison healthcare and professional standards.

Promote trauma-informed, inclusive and patient-centred care for people in custody.
