Practice Manager Queensway Medical CentreAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and forward-thinking Practice Manager to join Queensway Medical Centre.

We are seeking a confident and capable leader to oversee the effective day-to-day management of the practice, working closely with the GP Partners and wider team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

This is a varied and rewarding role within a busy and progressive GP practice. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership across clinical and non-clinical teams, ensuring the practice operates efficiently and in line with NHS requirements and regulatory standards.

The Practice Manager will play a key role in the strategic development and continuous improvement of the practice, supporting service development, patient experience and the delivery of effective primary care.

Key responsibilities will include staff leadership and development, HR, operational management, CQC and regulatory compliance, governance, risk management, complaints, policies and procedures, performance monitoring and service improvement.

We are looking for someone who is organised, approachable, resilient and solutions-focused, with excellent communication and leadership skills. You will need to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively and make confident decisions in a busy primary care environment.

Previous experience in general practice or a similar healthcare management setting is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • Leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the practice, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Supporting, developing and providing leadership to clinical and non-clinical teams, promoting high standards of performance and patient care.
  • Managing HR processes including recruitment, induction, staff development, performance management, absence and wellbeing.
  • Monitoring practice performance against contractual requirements, QOF targets, enhanced services and key performance indicators.
  • Ensuring compliance with CQC standards, Information Governance, Health & Safety and wider NHS requirements.
  • Working closely with GP Partners on strategic planning, business development, service improvement and practice development
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with the PCN, ICB and other external organisations and stakeholders.
  • Promoting a positive culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, accountability and excellent patient care.

Job description

Job ResponsibilitiesThe Practice Manager will be responsible for the overall day-to-day running of Queensway Medical Centre, working closely with the GP Partners and management team to make sure the practice runs smoothly and continues to provide high-quality care for our patients.

Leadership, Planning and Practice Development

  • Work with the GP Partners to plan and develop the practice and put agreed priorities into action.
  • Keep an eye on practice performance, including QOF, enhanced services and NHS contractual requirements.
  • Review and improve practice systems and processes, making sure they work well for both staff and patients.
  • Support and lead the management team, making sure responsibilities are shared appropriately and things get done.

Staff and HR

  • Take the lead on HR matters across the practice, supporting staff and managers with day-to-day issues.
  • Oversee recruitment, induction, training, development, performance and absence management.
  • Make sure staff are supported and that HR policies are applied fairly and consistently.
  • Promote a positive working environment where staff feel valued and supported.

Governance, Compliance and Quality

  • Ensure the practice continues to meet CQC, Information Governance, GDPR, Health & Safety and safeguarding requirements.
  • Oversee practice policies, audits, risk assessments, significant events, incidents and complaints.
  • Support ongoing CQC readiness and make sure actions and improvements are followed through.
  • Ensure EMIS Web and other practice systems are used effectively and safely.

Working with the Partners

  • Work closely with the GP Partners on the future development of the practice and delivery of agreed plans.
  • Build good working relationships with the PCN, ICB and other organisations.
  • Encourage a friendly, open and supportive culture across the whole practice team.
