We're looking for a proactive and highly organised individual to join our welcoming team in the General Surgery Department. In this dual role, you'll spend 3 days per week working as a Medical Secretary and 2 days tracking patients on the suspected colorectal cancer pathway.

This is a varied role that will require attention to detail, high levels of concentration, and a desire to enable the smooth running of our services. We are looking for a full time candidate with the opportunity to work from home for one day per week.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a complete and comprehensive medical administrative service for allocated Clinicians and their patients.
  • Ensure that correspondence from clinicians is typed, edited and sent promptly and accurately, and keep track of diagnostic reports to ensure that patients receive their results in a timely manner.
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, sharing responsibility for the smooth running of the administrative service to deliver safe patient care
  • To be a first point of contact, answering all telephone enquiries, taking and relaying messages in a polite and helpful manner, and using own judgement to establish the priority of issues and taking action as appropriate.
  • To deal with incoming correspondence via email from patients, GPs and other departments, using initiative as appropriate to expedite issues and administer patient appointments when necessary.
  • To assist in the fast track treatment for patients with cancer and to ensure referrals to other healthcare professionals are forwarded promptly.
  • To ensure patient data and records are up to date and accurate, including: checking patient outcomes are recorded correctly, administration of the RTT pathway, appointments and surgical procedures are requested, uploading clinical information as directed and facilitating transfer of care.
