Job Summary

Join our friendly and supportive Gynaecology team at St James’s University Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Senior Clinical Support Worker (CSW) to join our team on a 34.5-hour-per-week contract, supporting patients across Ward J24, the Gynaecology Assessment and Treatment Unit (GATU), and the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU).

This is a flexible role, and you will be required to work across all three clinical areas according to service and patient need. Flexibility is essential, and the post holder will be required to work a combination of day and night shifts, including 11.5-hour shifts. You will also be expected to work 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and 08:30 to 13:30 on Saturdays and Sundays where required to meet the needs of the service.

You will work closely with registered nurses, doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care to patients accessing inpatient, acute assessment, treatment and early pregnancy services.

This is a varied role in which you will have the opportunity to develop and use a broad range of clinical skills. Responsibilities will include welcoming and supporting patients, undertaking clinical observations and other delegated clinical activities within your competence, supporting investigations and procedures, undertaking phlebotomy and swabbing where trained and competent, maintaining equipment and stock, supporting clinical documentation and escalating any concerns about a patient's condition promptly to the appropriate registered healthcare professional.

You will also play an important role in supporting patients who may be experiencing pain, pregnancy loss, uncertainty, distress or undergoing sensitive gynaecological investigations and treatment. Compassion, sensitivity and maintaining patients' privacy and dignity are therefore central to this role.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable and willing to learn, with a genuine commitment to providing high-quality patient care. You will need to communicate effectively, work well as part of a multidisciplinary team and be able to move flexibly between Ward J24, GATU and EPAU according to clinical priorities and service pressures.

If you take pride in making a positive difference to patients, value dignity and respect, and would like to be part of a team committed to delivering safe, high-quality and compassionate gynaecological care, we would love to hear from you.

Why you should join our Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join Gynaecology Services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Senior Clinical Support Worker, providing care across Ward J24, GATU and EPAU.

The role offers a varied working environment, supporting patients across inpatient care, acute gynaecological assessment and treatment, and early pregnancy services. Working across these different areas will provide valuable experience and opportunities to further develop your clinical skills while working alongside experienced nurses, doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will play an important role in supporting patients at what can be a particularly vulnerable or difficult time. Patients accessing our services may be experiencing acute illness, pain, pregnancy complications or loss, or undergoing sensitive investigations and treatments. Your ability to provide kind, compassionate and individualised care, while protecting patients' privacy and dignity, will be fundamental to the role.

As a Senior Clinical Support Worker, you will contribute directly to the safe and effective running of our services by supporting clinical care, observations, investigations and procedures, while recognising and escalating concerns appropriately.

The post requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability. Although contracted for 34.5 hours per week, you will be expected to work flexibly across Ward J24, GATU and EPAU according to service requirements. This includes 11.5-hour day and night shifts, as well as working 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and 08:30 to 13:30 on Saturdays and Sundays when required by the service.

In return, you will become part of a supportive Gynaecology team where your contribution is valued and where you will have opportunities to develop your knowledge, skills and experience while making a meaningful difference to our patients every day.

What you will bring to the role

Demonstrate a variety of communication skills with patients who may have communication needs and difficulties e.g. confusion, dementia or other linguistic issues

Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures regarding confidentiality of data and data security

Provide and deliver a high standard of compassionate personal care recognising and meeting the specific needs of the patients

Following training and assessment, competently undertake agreed clinical tasks relevant to the post and clinical area

Collect equipment for clinical procedures as directed by the registered practitioner. Safely dispose of equipment, post procedure, restocking where appropriate

Acts as a chaperone as per chaperone policy.

Undertake duties on different wards, departments or clinical areas as and when required by service demands
