Children and Young People Disability Team

12 months fixed term contract

As a Social Worker, you will hold an allocated caseload that may include Child in Need, Child Protection and Looked After Children cases, depending on your level of experience. You will undertake assessments, deliver interventions and work alongside children, families and partner agencies to safeguard children and support lasting positive change.

This ASYE Role is within Children and Young People with Disabilities, and therefore experience in this area is essential.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. Working within a multi-agency environment, you will help ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success. Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.

About the role

  • Undertake assessments and, where appropriate, arrange accommodation for children and young people.
  • Manage a caseload of children and families, ensuring plans achieve positive outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with children, young people, families, carers and communities to identify needs and achieve meaningful change.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with service users and professionals.
  • Liaise with colleagues and partner agencies to gather information, plan interventions and coordinate support.
  • Maintain accurate case records and prepare reports, including presenting evidence in court when required.
  • Participate in planning and reviewing cases for children in care and support fostering and adoption arrangements.
  • Lead multi-agency meetings, including Core Groups, ensuring actions are progressed and outcomes achieved.
  • Assess and manage risk, escalating concerns appropriately and working with colleagues to safeguard children.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, research and best practice through continuous professional development.

About you

We're looking for dedicated professionals who are passionate about achieving the best outcomes for children and families.

You'll have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification.
  • Current Social Work England registration.
  • Knowledge of the legal, social, economic and environmental context of social work practice.

  • Excellent communication, report writing and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to analyse complex information and develop effective care plans.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload.
  • Good IT skills and experience using case management systems.
  • Resilience and the ability to work effectively in challenging situations.

You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.

Make a Difference to Reading - maintain the highest levels of customer service and be flexible and willing to provide the services needed at the time they are needed

Our offer

We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career with the opportunity to put your ideas across. Innovation and ambition is strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment.

A competitive salary alongside a range of benefits including:
