Job description

Role title:

Performance, Finance and Reporting Analyst

Team/Directorate:

Judicial College - Performance, Projects and Reporting Team

Overview of the Judicial Office

The Judicial Office (JO) reports to, and is accountable, to the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ). It was established in 2006 to provide support to the LCJ and to the wider judiciary in upholding the rule of law and in delivering justice impartially, speedily and efficiently, following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005.

In addition, we support, and are accountable to, the Senior President of Tribunals, whose responsibilities extend to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The JO is an interesting and unique place to work. Everything we do is in support of upholding the independence and impartiality of the judiciary. We work closely with HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and others across Government as well as with the legal professions.

We are an Arm’s Length Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. This creates an interesting and complex environment in which to work where we agree our priorities with the senior judiciary and receive our funding to deliver them from the Ministry of Justice. The Judicial Office has been through a period of significant growth resulting from an expansion of our remit and responsibilities.

Overview of the team

The Performance, Projects and Reporting Team supports the Judicial College with performance reporting, financial planning, fee management, management information and data-led decision-making. The team works across judicial and magistrates training, helping colleagues understand delivery, expenditure, forecast pressures and emerging risks. It maintains reporting products and financial records that support operational delivery, budget control and senior assurance.

Hybrid Working Requirement

This position is eligible for hybrid working (current minimum requirement for time spent at base location is 60%, which is subject to business requirements).

Summary of the role

The Performance, Finance and Reporting Analyst will deliver accurate, timely and well-controlled performance and financial reporting across the Judicial College. The role combines data analysis and dashboard development with hands-on financial management, including judicial fee monitoring, budget profiling, forecast maintenance, variance analysis and financial record keeping.

The postholder will work with programme, operations and finance colleagues to maintain reliable records of commitments, actual expenditure and forecast costs. They will turn data from multiple systems into clear management information, identify financial and delivery risks, and support evidence-based decisions about judicial and magistrates training. The role will also improve reporting processes through automation, documented controls and consistent data standards.

  • Produce regular and ad-hoc performance and financial analysis for senior managers, programme teams and other stakeholders.
  • Support the accuracy of month-end processes by reviewing transactions, commitments, accrual information and forecast records and by highlighting missing or incorrectly coded items.
  • Contribute flexibly to wider Performance, Projects and Reporting Team priorities and provide cover for core reporting and finance activities when required.
