About the role

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Jarvis group in the Section of Molecular Plant Biology at the Department of Biology, to work on a new BBSRC project focused on deciphering the structure and mechanism of the chloroplast-associated protein degradation (CHLORAD) machinery.

Our research group has a long track-record of studying chloroplast protein import mechanisms. We uncovered how the import machinery is regulated by a proteolytic mechanism called CHLORAD, and how such regulation is vital for diverse aspects of plant growth, including resilience to adverse environments and fruit ripening. However, while we have a good appreciation of the composition and importance of the CHLORAD machinery, our understanding of its structural characteristics and the molecular mechanisms that underlie its operation are rudimentary. This project will directly address these knowledge gaps.

About you

If appointed, you will independently manage your own research within guidelines provided by the supervisor and will contribute to wider project planning. You will actively foster the intellectual environment of the research group through interactions with colleagues, providing training, advice or supervision as necessary.

You will possess a PhD/DPhil degree in a relevant discipline, and the specialist expertise needed to carry out the project work effectively. You will have considerable research experience in protein biochemistry and molecular biology.

How to apply

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Paul Jarvis ([email protected])
