As a Taxi MOT Receptionist, you will play a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of the Council's taxi testing depot, acting as the key link between vehicle owners, testers and the Licensing Service.

This is a customer-focused role where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for welcoming customers to the depot, coordinating the transfer of vehicle keys, updating booking information, and providing advice and guidance on the vehicle testing process. You will also manage enquiries received through the taxi test mailbox and help ensure customers receive a professional, efficient and positive service experience.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, remains calm under pressure, and can confidently handle a busy environment. Strong communication skills, excellent customer care and a willingness to learn taxi licensing processes will be essential to success in the role.

At Oldham Council, we're committed to delivering excellent services for our residents and licensed trade. In return, you'll join a supportive team that values professionalism, collaboration and continuous improvement, while helping us deliver on our values of being Proud, Ambitious and Together.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the main point of contact for vehicle owners attending the taxi testing depot, including receiving and returning vehicle keys.

Liaise with vehicle testers and communicate test outcomes and relevant information to vehicle owners.

Use the Licensing Service vehicle booking system to manage appointments, update records and resolve booking issues.

Provide advice and guidance on vehicle testing processes and next steps in line with licensing procedures.

Manage the taxi test mailbox, responding to enquiries and referring specialist complaints to the appropriate manager where necessary.

Key Requirements

Experience of working with members of the public and delivering excellent customer service.

Experience of using general office systems and procedures.

Ability to communicate confidently, remain calm under pressure and deal professionally with challenging situations.

Ability to converse with ease and provide advice in accurate spoken English.

Understanding of the importance of data protection and confidentiality.
