Working alongside an established Strategic Business Partnering Lead, you will form a key strategic partnership at the heart of our finance function, leading financial business partnering across the Council and helping shape Middlesbrough’s financial future.

These senior roles play a vital part in driving financial sustainability, supporting transformation and strengthening decision-making across all directorates. Together, the postholders lead the development of a modern, proactive business partnering model, providing strategic financial advice, challenge and support to senior leaders and elected members.

The role offers significant exposure to senior leadership, corporate reporting and organisational improvement, along with the opportunity to deputise for the Head of Financial Planning & Business Partnering.

About the role:

Lead and develop the Council's finance business partnering approach.

Provide strategic financial advice to senior officers, Members and the Section 151 Officer.

Support and challenge services to improve financial performance and sustainability. Oversee financial monitoring, forecasting and financial governance.

Build strong relationships with Corporate Directors, Service Directors and senior managers.

Ensure robust financial input into key decisions, business cases and reports.

Support transformation, improvement and major change programmes.

Deputise for the Head of Financial Planning & Business Partnering when required.

About You:

You will be a CCAB-qualified accountant with strong public sector finance experience, excellent technical skills and a proven ability to influence and challenge at a senior level.

You will be a collaborative leader, able to build strong relationships, drive improvement and support effective decision-making across a complex organisation.

Most importantly, you will share our commitment to excellence, continuous improvement and the Middlesbrough Values.
