This is an exciting opportunity to work across the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Maternity Disparities Consortium (www.mdc.nihr.ac.uk) as the Knowledge Mobilisation Manager, based at the University of Birmingham. We are co-leading (along with Newcastle University) this £50million national programme which brings together a diverse range of organisations with expertise in research, capacity building and working with people and communities to deliver a step change in maternity outcomes and developing future research leaders in this area of need. The research carried out by the consortium will focus on inequalities before, during and after pregnancy. This role offers the opportunity to play a critical role in bridging the gap between research and practice, while developing your career within a supportive and multidisciplinary environment.

About the Role

As the Knowledge Mobilisation Manager you will support the translation of research evidence into action and implementation across the NHS, other care settings and into wider policy. You will work with the Consortium partners and external stakeholders across our three research themes, two cross-cutting workstreams and two core functions supporting knowledge mobilisation for local, regional and national policymakers/care providers/commissioners.

This position involves understanding the evidence needs of health and care professionals, policymakers and the community, in high-priority areas, working with academia to drive the synthesis of evidence and/or identify high quality, relevant, actionable research evidence.

Processes will be two-way and iterative, incorporating systems thinking to ensure decision makers are supported to express their knowledge needs and have clear routes to implementation of evidence-based solutions, and ensuring that researchers understand the knowledge and evidence needs, of the local health and care system.

This is a full time position  until 31st July 2030. The University operates a hybrid working model, however, the successful candidate will be expected to spend the majority of their time on campus. Travel within the UK will be required.

What We're Looking For

Relevant experience in knowledge mobilisation, knowledge translation, or a related role within the health sector.

Strong understanding of health and care systems, including the evidence-to-practice gap.

An appreciation of knowledge mobilisation theories and how they can be operationalised.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Ability to interpret and identifying key results from research evidence and succinctly summarise findings in plain language and user-friendly formats.

About Us

You will be based within the Research Delivery Team in the College of Medicine and Health and closely with the Consortium Directorate team within Birmingham and Newcastle University, the Consortium partners and stakeholders across the UK.

Application Process

Please apply online and submit a supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification. Closing date 1st November, interviews will take place on 26th November.
