About the Blavatnik School of Government

Our vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. We are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, through three routes: teaching current and future leaders; generating research with impact; and engaging with governments and practitioners.

What we offer

The School is a collaborative, friendly, and dynamic department based in an award-winning building in Oxford. We host regular events and talks with well-known guest speakers – all open to staff. On the social side, we have a regular events calendar that are designed to appeal to all, including our Christmas and summer parties.

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer. More information about working at the School can be found on our jobs page.

About the Role

You will play a key role in developing new electrification-related domains of the Climate Policy Monitor, working with researchers, developers and external partners to shape their scope, methodology and integration into the tool. You will oversee data collection and validation, co-ordinate research activities and manage the Hub’s contributions to the Oxford Electrification Accelerator, working closely with colleagues across the University.

Your research will focus on electricity market design, regulation and power-sector decarbonisation, developing methodologies and analysing complex policy and regulatory data to inform new research and publications. You will contribute to research proposals and funding opportunities, collaborate with partner institutions, and communicate findings through publications, conferences and external meetings. You will also provide specialist advice to colleagues and engage with policymakers, regulators, system operators and industry stakeholders.

About You

You will hold, or be close to completing, a relevant PhD/DPhil in economics, public policy, law, engineering or a related discipline, with relevant experience focused on energy, electricity or climate. You will bring specialist knowledge of electricity systems, energy and electricity market regulation and/or power-sector decarbonisation, including an understanding of different jurisdictions relevant to the Monitor’s global scope. You will be confident working with large, complex policy and regulatory datasets and have strong organisational and project management skills, including the ability to manage your own research and competing priorities.

You will have experience contributing to research publications or presentations, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be able to present research proposals and findings clearly, represent the research group at meetings and build effective working relationships with external experts, partners and data users. You will also be able to develop ideas for new research projects and contribute to identifying opportunities for research funding.

Application process

Please upload a supporting statement that outlines how you meet the selection criteria in your own words, along with your CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
