At the University of Derby, our Initial Teacher Training Education (ITTE) Primary programmes are designed to prepare future primary school teachers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make a lasting difference in children’s lives.

We offer a supportive, practice-based route into teaching, combining high-quality academic study with extensive school-based placements across our network of partner schools.

About the Role

As a Lecturer in Initial Teacher Training and Education, you will play a key role in developing and inspiring the next generation of education professionals. You will deliver high-quality, engaging teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes, contributing to curriculum development, innovative learning approaches and an outstanding student experience. You will also provide academic and pastoral support.

You will also contribute to research, scholarly activity and knowledge exchange, sharing your expertise through publications, conferences and collaborative partnerships. Working with colleagues and external partners, including schools, employers and professional bodies, you will help strengthen the University's academic profile and ensure employability is embedded throughout the curriculum.

The anticipated interview date is 25th November.

About You

With Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), recent experience in primary or Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) education, and a strong academic background, you will bring valuable professional expertise and a commitment to research-informed teaching and learning. You will have a good understanding of current DfE, Ofsted and ITTECF frameworks, alongside knowledge of curriculum design, assessment, mentoring and effective school partnerships.

You will be a reflective and collaborative professional who can engage and inspire students through a range of innovative teaching approaches, supported by strong communication, relationship-building and digital skills.
