About the role

We are looking for a highly organised, reliable and professional individual to join our friendly school community as Clerk to Governors (Professional Governance Advisor).

Astley CE Primary School is a small, welcoming rural Church of England primary school, where our vision is to Let Everyone Shine.

As our Clerk to Governors, you will play a key role in supporting the effective operation of our Governing Board, working closely with our Chair of Governors, Headteacher and governors. Your responsibilities will include organising meetings, preparing agendas and accurate minutes, maintaining statutory records and providing administrative support and procedural advice to help ensure effective school governance.

The role involves attending 12 scheduled Governing Board and committee meetings each year, some of which take place in the evening. The remaining hours are worked flexibly throughout the year to support meeting preparation, follow-up and wider governance responsibilities.

What we can offer you

You will be joining a friendly and supportive school community with a committed Governing Board that plays an important role in the strategic leadership and development of our school.

Previous experience as a Clerk to Governors is not essential. We welcome applications from individuals with strong organisational, administrative and communication skills who are interested in developing their knowledge of school governance.

We will support you with appropriate training and professional development to help you grow in confidence and develop the skills and knowledge required for the role.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, has excellent attention to detail and is looking for a rewarding, flexible role where they can make a positive contribution to a school community.

For further information or to arrange an informal discussion, please contact Mrs Tracie Langfield, Headteacher, via the school office on 01299 822002 or email [email protected].

Benefits

Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), subject to eligibility.

Flexible working arrangements across the year, subject to meeting schedules and governance requirements.

Access to appropriate training and continuing professional development.

Opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in school governance.

A friendly, welcoming and supportive school community.

Opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the strategic development of our school.

Disclosure Barring Service (DBS)

This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands, or final warnings, as well as convictions. The County Council has a commitment to safeguarding service users in our care.

Equality & Diversity

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all citizens and celebrate the diversity of all our residents.

Application Closing Date: Monday 2 November 2026
