About the role

The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a Professor of Pharmacological Science within the School of Healthcare. This is an exciting opportunity to provide research leadership within the expanding Pharmacy and Optometry division, strengthening research infrastructure and developing internationally recognised research across pharmacological science. You will shape the strategic direction of research, secure significant external funding and build productive collaborations across Biological Sciences, the Medical School and national and international networks. You will also support the development of postgraduate researchers and colleagues through high-quality supervision, mentoring, coaching and training.

Alongside your research leadership, you will make an important contribution to the MPharm programme through pharmacology teaching, programme development and the creation and supervision of student projects. Leicester's MPharm combines academic study with extensive work-based learning and clinical placements, providing students with opportunities to apply their learning to patient care. As a Professor, you will also undertake leadership and citizenship roles across the University, helping to foster an academic environment that reflects Leicester's values of being Inclusive, Inspiring and Impactful.

About you

You will hold a PhD in a relevant subject area and have substantial experience of pharmacologically related research, complemented by a sustained record of internationally recognised, world-leading research outputs and impact. You will bring an established national or international reputation, a strong record of securing external research income and experience of leading significant research activity and professional networks. You will also have substantial undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, including doctoral supervision and experience of developing and delivering healthcare programmes. Broad pedagogical expertise, coupled with the ability to think differently and creatively about pharmacy education, will be central to your contribution.

You will be an inspiring and collaborative academic leader with the ability to motivate and develop others, establish multidisciplinary networks and partnerships, and contribute to an inclusive and respectful research and teaching culture. You will share our commitment to excellent student experiences, equity, diversity and inclusion, and to research and education that deliver meaningful impact. The University of Leicester is committed to securing freedom of speech and academic freedom within the law, recognising that advancing new ideas, encouraging vigorous debate and challenging conventional wisdom are fundamental to its academic mission.
