Job summary
We are recruiting for a development opportunity towards becoming a Senior Physiotherapist within our Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team and Inpatient Stroke Unit on the Isle of Wight.
As a valued member of the team, you will deliver a high standard of physiotherapy care across a range of settings, always acting in the best interests of the patients you support.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the stroke pathway, you will help ensure the delivery of consistent, evidence-based care for the people of the Isle of Wight. You will contribute to quality improvement initiatives, service development, and the support and supervision of junior staff, while continuing to develop your own clinical knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job
To undertake a supporting role, in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to clients within the service on a day-to-day basis.
To take an active role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the Stroke Unit and ICSS who may have a complex presentation and determine if/what physiotherapy treatment is indicated and deliver an individualised treatment programme. To work as an autonomous practitioner ensuring that records are maintained and up to date in line with policy and governing body HCPC.
To independently supervise, teach and appraise junior Physiotherapists, Associate Practitioners, Physiotherapy students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as determined by the team leader and professional lead.
The successful candidate would be supported in training and development opportunities including stroke specific courses such as those offered by "Strokeed" and have the opportunity to attend stroke conferences nationally/ locally. Regular supervision from seniors and opportunities to participate in MDT stroke specific training and opportunities to participate in audits (with protected time to support these activities).
They would have opportunities to develop the leadership/ educational skills by supporting BSc and MSc Physio students and Careers for younger person apprentices.
Excellent MDT collaborative working to support patients both inpatient and community.
Job description
This is a development post and as such the successful candidate will, at induction, review alongside the JD, to define clear competency attainment expectations with their primary clinical supervisor and line manager. Using a skills scan approach, the supervisor and supervisee will work together to consider current competency level, areas of specific focus and a clear personal development plan to ensure competency attainment is achieved within the following 12-18 months. Review will take place quarterly. Sign off for full competency will be considered at 12 months and can be extended to up to 18 months, should there be sufficient progress, without full attainment. A robust portfolio of triangulated evidence will be required to be produced to achieve attainment of gateway. Support will be provided to guide this process. This will include, though is not limited to, supervised practice logs using clinical observation tools and clinical competency review, case based discussions, weekly reflective logs with detailed reflections relating to significant events or learning experiences, literature review and evidence of influence to evidence based practice and service development, evidence or educating and supporting others, with feedback from colleagues and service users.
