Job summary
This an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery and development of pharmacy services across Northumbria Healthcare. The post supports the safe, efficient and cost-effective supply of medicines, with responsibilities spanning procurement, pharmacy IT systems and business information.
Working closely with pharmacy and wider Trust teams, the post holder will contribute to medicines governance, service improvement and the development of the North East and North Cumbria Formulary, while leading a the Pharmacy Procurement Team. The role also provides the opportunity to use and develop specialist technical, analytical and leadership skills, in addition to clinical and operational knowledge, alongside maintaining a practising pharmacy technician role.

Main duties of the job
- Lead and develop pharmacy procurement and homecare services, helping ensure patients have timely access to safe, effective and value-for-money medicines.
- Use data and technology to improve pharmacy services, managing key pharmacy IT systems and producing meaningful information to support decision-making and service improvement.
- Lead a small business and administration team, providing direction, support and opportunities for development.
- Contribute to medicines governance and service development, including the Medicines Homecare Group and the North East and North Cumbria Formulary.
- Drive improvement and manage risk, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, patient safety and the use of medicines across the Trust.
- Use your specialist pharmacy technician expertise, providing technical advice and supporting clinical and operational pharmacy services when required.
- Work collaboratively across the Trust, building effective relationships with pharmacy, clinical, finance, IT and external partners to deliver better medicines services.
Job description
- To manage andsupport the Pharmacy Procurement team with the safe provision of medicines for use in the Trust.
- Provide clinical support to staff and patients engaged in the management of patients within service.
- To manage and develop all Pharmacy computer and IT systems (e.g. Optum, ARX interface andPowergate). To develop and increase the utilisation of information technology and management information to aid decision-making andfacilitateoperational effectiveness.
- To support the management and provision of medicines related homecare services across theTrust
- To support the various business functions of the Pharmacy service through data management,manipulationand co-ordination, e.g. Key Performance Indicator(KPI)reporting, drug reportsetc.
- Provide input into the Trusts Medicines Homecare Group (MHG), supporting the Chair of this group.
- To manage a team of business and administration staff who support the delivery of the above services.
- To provide support to the LeadClinicalPharmacistProcurement, Formulary and Business Information withthe localmanagement of theNorth Eastand North Cumbria (NENC) Formulary.
- To provide Pharmacy technical support and advice on pharmaceutical matters and thosepertaining tomedicines management whenrequired. Medicines management encompasses the selection, procurement, dispensing, delivery, prescribing,administrationand review of medicines to optimise the contribution they make to produce informed and desired outcomes of patient care.It includes all the processes,activitiesand systems inside and outside of pharmacy undertaken by doctors, nurses, porters, GPs, pharmacy staff etc.
- To work as a practising pharmacy technician, undertaking dispensary work and ward based clinical and technical duties whenrequired.
- To support the work of other senior technical staff, undertaking relevant duties as required e.g. providing cover.
