Introduction
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint additional Chaplaincy Volunteers to contribute a couple of hours a week and support the Chaplaincy department.
Within the hospital environment, candidates must be willing to engage with all patients, relatives, staff, and to work with all chaplaincy colleagues regardless of denomination, gender, faith or belief.
It is expected that chaplaincy volunteers will be recognised within and be approved by either their own denomination, faith or belief group, be in good standing within their own faith/belief community and ideally, have demonstrated previous pastoral experience.
Main duties of the job
- As a Sunday Service Chaplaincy Volunteer: taking Holy Communion to and/praying with patients who have asked for a bedside visit on Sunday mornings. The volunteer agreement covers a 4 hour period; however, on Sundays you may only be required for a minimum of two hours, depending on service needs.
- And/or: collecting patients in wheelchairs (by request) so they can attend the 11.00am Service in Chapel.
- Notifying patients and staff about the Sunday service
- Approaching patients with respect and clearly introducing yourself and your role
- Promoting the work of the Chaplaincy more broadly
- Building positive relationships with patients, staff, and visitors
- Referring patients to a Duty Chaplain for additional pastoral support when needed
- Participating in team discussions and required training sessions
- Ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with professional and organisational policies
- Reporting to the Lead Chaplain
