Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Salaried GP to join the friendly, experienced, and supportive clinical team at Springfields Medical Centre.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, forward-thinking GP training practice dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in a supportive environment that values the professional development and wellbeing of its clinical team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join us as a Salaried GP working 4-6 sessions per week, with clinical responsibilities delivered through a combination of telephone and face-to-face consultations.

The successful candidate will undertake the full range of duties expected of a Salaried GP in accordance with the practice's contractual and enhanced service commitments.Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting face-to-face and telephone consultations.
  • Providing home visits and visiting patients in residential and care home settings where clinically appropriate.
  • Reviewing, authorising, and signing prescriptions.
  • Participating in the practice duty clinic on a shared rota.
  • Managing patient queries, clinical correspondence, referrals, results, and associated paperwork.
  • Completing clinical administration to support safe and effective patient care.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred services and contribute to the ongoing development of the practice.

Job description

The successful candidate will be appointed on a Salaried GP contract in line with the BMA model contract and an agreed job plan. Salary will be determined according to experience and the number of sessions undertaken.

This is a flexible and varied clinical role comprising a combination of telephone consultations and face-to-face appointments, supported by a structured workload and the wider practice team.

In accordance with the practice timetable, the GP will undertake a range of duties including:

  • Conducting face-to-face and telephone consultations.
  • Undertaking home visits and care home visits where clinically appropriate.
  • Reviewing, authorising, and signing prescriptions, including responding to medication queries.
  • Managing patient correspondence, clinical paperwork, referrals, and administrative tasks in a timely manner.
  • Reviewing and actioning blood results and incoming clinical documentation electronically.
  • Making appropriate referrals for specialist assessment and following agreed referral pathways.
  • Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous consultation records, including appropriate coding to support QOF and clinical governance requirements.

The practice operates a shared Duty Doctor rota, requiring each GP to participate approximately one day per week, with additional cover occasionally required during periods of colleague absence such as annual leave or sickness.

Duty Doctor responsibilities include:

  • Responding to urgent patient requests and clinical queries from patients or healthcare professionals, including practice nurses, district nurses, and secondary care colleagues.
  • Assessing and managing urgent clinical issues appropriately.
  • Responding to requests for home visits received.

Professional Standards and Practice Requirements

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Work within current local policy for prescribing.
  • Action pathology results, prescriptions, and referrals promptly.
  • Familiarise themselves with and follow Warrington safeguarding procedures.
  • Adhere to the practice staff handbook, policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with information governance requirements, including smartcard security and data protection regulations.
  • Follow practice protocols and clinical guidance stored on the shared systems.
  • Work collaboratively with the practice team to support achievement of QOF targets and enhanced service requirements during routine clinical sessions.
  • Contribute positively to the continued success and reputation of the practice by providing high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centred care.
