Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician in Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust to join the Pharmacy Aseptics Department at Pinderfields General Hospital. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a high-quality pharmaceutical service across the Trust, undertaking a wide range of duties within dispensary and ward environments while contributing to effective medicines management systems. You will be responsible for accurately checking dispensed items as an accredited checker, ensuring safe and timely supply of medicines to patients, wards, departments, and external healthcare organisations. You will play a key role in maintaining efficient pharmacy operations, supporting the delivery of patient-focused services, and supervising the work of staff within the Patient Services section to ensure safe, effective, and consistent practice

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Technician you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct and ensuring your practice reflects the values and expectations of the Trust. You will be responsible for presenting yourself in a professional manner in accordance with Trust policies, while supporting a positive and respectful working environment for colleagues, patients, and service users. You will be managing effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals, demonstrating courtesy, professionalism, and respect for equality and inclusion at all times. You will support the delivery of a patient-centred service by upholding patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality, ensuring every individual is treated with respect and compassion throughout their care journey

Job description

TO provide senior technical support within the pharmacy team by deputising for Specialist Technicians when required, assisting with the coordination of specialist activities and ensuring appropriate cover arrangements are maintained during periods of absence.

TO oversee the allocation and completion of delegated tasks among Pharmacy Technicians, Student Technicians, and Pharmacy Assistants, providing guidance and monitoring adherence to departmental procedures, documentation requirements, and competency standards.

TO carry out the preparation of sterile and non-sterile medicinal products, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, by following approved procedures, completing accurate calculations, and applying required technical skills within controlled working environments.

TO assist clinical pharmacy teams with medicines optimisation processes by contributing to medication history taking, discharge preparation, patient counselling support, and communication with healthcare professionals involved in ongoing patient care.

TO undertake the dispensing and management of complex medication supplies, including controlled drugs, clinical trial medicines, specialist medicines, and other regulated products, ensuring accurate records and compliance with relevant procedures.

TO contribute to pharmacy service development by supporting training activities, identifying opportunities for improving working practices, promoting efficient use of resources, and participating in quality and safety initiatives.
