Job summary

The Electro Medical Equipment Manager will provide senior technical leadership, operational management and assurance for the Trust's medical equipment management service. The post holder will be responsible for the safe, effective and compliant operation of the Medical Equipment Workshop, ensuring robust oversight of planned preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, medical equipment management, equipment availability, safety actions, incident investigation and supplier performance.

The role will also lead service improvement, governance, workforce competence and the development of standardised processes across the medical equipment lifecycle, supporting improved resilience, compliance and patient safety across the Trust.

The post holder will play a key role in the implementation and continuous development of the service's Quality Management System, and experience of leading QMS implementation and achieving external accreditation to ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485 will be highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and manage the Trust's medical equipment management service, providing senior technical oversight of the Medical Equipment Workshop and associated engineering activity. Key duties include ensuring safe and compliant delivery of planned preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, equipment safety actions, asset management, equipment availability and medical device incident support.

The role will also be responsible for service performance, governance, supplier and contract oversight, workforce competence, and the development of standardised processes across the medical equipment lifecycle. This will include establishing and maintaining a formal Quality Management System, leading the service towards external accreditation to ISO 13485, and providing governance and oversight of the Clinical Engineering Apprenticeship programme.

The post holder will work closely with clinical, operational, procurement, finance, logistics, quality/risk and external supplier stakeholders to improve service resilience, compliance and patient safety.

Job description

The Electro Medical Equipment Manager will act as the Trusts senior technical lead for medical equipment lifecycle support and assurance. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the leadership, performance and governance of the Medical Equipment Workshop and associated clinical engineering activity across the Trust.

The post holder will ensure the safe, effective and compliant delivery of planned preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, calibration, asset tracking, equipment availability, safety alerts and medical device incident support. They will provide senior technical oversight, ensure appropriate escalation of risks, and support complex repair, replacement and lifecycle decisions.

The role will lead the development and implementation of standardised processes, procedures and governance arrangements for medical equipment management, including the establishment and maintenance of a formal Quality Management System and progression towards external accreditation to ISO 13485. The post holder will also be responsible for service performance reporting, audit readiness, risk management, supplier and contract oversight, budgetary input and continuous service improvement.

The post holder will provide leadership and professional support to the Medical Equipment Team, including oversight of workforce competence, training and development. This will include leading the Clinical Engineering Apprenticeship programme and ensuring appropriate supervision, assessment and progression arrangements are in place.

The role will require close working with clinical, operational, procurement, finance, logistics, quality/risk, digital and external supplier stakeholders to ensure the service supports Trust priorities, improves resilience, maintains compliance and contributes to patient safety.
