Practice Business Manager

Main duties of the job

As a GP Partner, you will combine high-quality clinical practice with the opportunity to contribute to the leadership and long-term sustainability of the practice. Alongside a committed team of Partners and our Practice Business Manager, you will play an active role in shaping services, developing the workforce, improving patient access, and driving continuous quality improvement.

Job description

  • Provide medical services to the registered patient population of the practice.
  • Consult with patients within surgery, home visit, care home, or outreach settings as agreed by the Partnership.
  • Refer patients to secondary care where appropriate, following NICE and local referral pathways.
  • Prescribe safely and effectively using NICE guidance, local formularies, and prescribing best practice.
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacy teams and wider multidisciplinary colleagues where appropriate.
  • Support service delivery requirements including occasional additional sessions where unforeseen operational circumstances arise.
  • Maintain continuity of care and build long-term patient relationships through personal list management where appropriate.
  • Prime Responsibilities
  • Participate in on call duties to answer urgent patient queries, manage emergency appointments, and undertake urgent home visits where clinically appropriate.
  • Act as the Lead GP for the day, providing clinical oversight of triage, workload prioritisation, and safe clinical service delivery
  • Make professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting patient problems.
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
  • Identify disease risk factors and early signs of illness through preventative and proactive care.
  • Develop care plans collaboratively with patients to improve long-term health outcomes.
  • Provide health education, preventative advice, and counselling where appropriate.
  • Comply with all safeguarding, information governance, confidentiality, and clinical governance policies.
  • Maintain commitment to evidence-based medicine and best clinical practice standards.

Partnership Responsibilities

As a GP Partner, the post holder will be expected to actively contribute beyond routine clinical duties and participate fully in the responsibilities associated with ownership and leadership of the practice.

This includes:

  • Demonstrating long-term commitment and dedication to the Partnership and future success of the organisation.
  • Actively participating in Partnership meetings and collective decision-making.
  • Taking shared responsibility for the overall strategic direction, sustainability, and operational success of the practice.
  • Working collaboratively with fellow Partners within a supportive partnership environment where leadership responsibilities are shared collectively.
  • Working closely alongside the newly appointed Practice Business Manager in relation to operational management, workforce planning, business development, and organisational performance.
  • Supporting financial sustainability and contributing to business planning discussions where required.
  • Contributing to workforce development, recruitment planning, and succession planning for the long-term future of the practice.
  • Supporting service development opportunities and innovation within primary care delivery.
  • Maintaining a proactive role in ensuring the continued growth and stability of the practice.
  • Demonstrate exemplary professional standards, promoting high-quality clinical practice and positive behaviours across the multidisciplinary team.
