Main duties of the job
We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Nurse to oversee the healthcare provision for children and young people aged 219 with severe, profound, and multiple learning and physical difficulties. You will be part of a team supporting the senior school nurse and assistant practitioner within your team, helping to create a collaborative, nurturing environment where everyone can thrive. This role is based at Woodlands School in Leatherhead and is Term-Time only. Main Responsibilities include delivering safe, high-quality, child-centred nursing care, assessing health needs, making informed clinical decisions, and contributing to safeguarding and multi-agency work.

Main Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high-quality, child-centred nursing care, including medication oversight, tracheostomy and PEG care, and emergency response.
- Assess health needs, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute to safeguarding and multi-agency work.
- Communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals, using alternative communication methods where needed.
- Develop and review personalised care plans and empower families in managing health needs.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure safe use of medical equipment.
- Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to school staff and students.
- Support service improvement through audit, evaluation, and evidence-based practice.
- Work autonomously while upholding high professional standards across the school nursing service.
Ideal CandidateEssential
- RGN and or RSCN with child and/or learning disability experience
- Experience of working with children with additional needs
- Good working knowledge of Child Protection policy & procedures
- Clear understanding of community health services
- Able to communicate effectively
- Clear, concise written & oral communication
- Able to work autonomously & prioritise own work effectively
Desirable
- School nurse degree, diploma
- Experience of working with children with complex health needs
- Previous working experience in a special school setting
- Experience of initiating & participating in clinical audits
Other requirements: The post holder must be a car driver with a valid driving licence.
