JOB TITLE: Community Adult Consultant Psychiatrist - Mellmead House CONTRACT: Part Time - 5 Programmed Activities Substantive Salary - £113,565 - £150,569 (per annum pro rata) This post is for a community adult consultant psychiatrist position in the Redbridge Mental Wellness West Team, based at Mellmead House, 4 Orchard Close, Rodney Road, Wanstead, Redbridge, E11 2DH. The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. This will ensure that all work undertaken by our staff is clearly identified and carried out under clear lines of accountability. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be committed to upholding a culture of care and collaborative working in Mental and Health Wellness Teams at Mellmead House. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide direct input to clinical cases. You will be expected to provide clinical leadership and supervision to the team, work directly with patients and their families and liaise as appropriate with Redbridge University Trust (BHRUT) Trust colleagues, and NELFT Older Adult Home Treatment Team, inpatient and community-based colleagues and teams. General Duties To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day-to-day allocation of work. To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them. To ensure effective risk management at clinical and team level. Training & Supervision:To act as clinical supervisor to the doctors working in the team, providing effective education, facilitating their development, and promoting high standards of medical care. To ensure own continued professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning. To undertake a regular appraisal and develop a personal development plan. To support new staff and their integration within the team. To support training across the team including opportunities for professional development and implementation of new policies and guidelines.

Job description

A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place in Redbridge’s adult mental health services over the past few years. This is a new post to support the team caseload. This is a substantive, part time post - 5 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).

On-call responsibilities: The postholder will be part of the Senior Psychiatrist on-call rota covering out of hours and weekends for Mental Health Services in NELFT. The on call will cover service delivery for Adults and Older Adults presenting with mental health problems. This rota is currently a 1:50 rota, with a 3% Category A salary supplement. The Trust also has a daytime (9am - 5pm) Section 136 rota, with an approximate frequency of once every 3 months.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to adults with mental health needs who are registered with a GP Practice located in the northern part of the London Borough of Redbridge (plus a small number of patients who reside in that part of the Borough but whose GP is elsewhere).

The successful candidate will provide senior medical support to the team, and direct input on clinical cases. Together with the other 2wte consultants, a 1wte Specialty Doctor, and 1wte trainee doctor, the postholder will be expected to provide guidance and supervision to the team, work directly with adult people (and their families), and liaise as appropriate with other external adult mental health providers, and acute hospitals. You will share clinical supervision requirements for the 2 trainees with the other consultants in the West team.

We receive Year 4 medical students on clinical placement from Barts & The London School of Medicine, Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) as well as Physician Associate students from QMUL and Anglia Ruskin University. There are opportunities for Specialty Doctors to take an active role in teaching both in terms of clinical work and curriculum delivery as well as delivering lectures and acting as examiners in the Clinical Examinations at QMUL.

The postholder will have access to designated office space based at Mellmead House in Wanstead.
