Job Summary

Penwith Primary Care Network is seeking a motivated newly qualified pharmacist to join our well-established team across seven GP practices in West Cornwall.

This role offers a structured development pathway aligned to the RPS Foundation Pharmacist Framework and the Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway (PCPEP). As a newly registered prescribing pharmacist (from August 2026), you will be supported to consolidate and develop your prescribing competencies within a safe and supervised environment.

With a strong multidisciplinary team, dedicated supervision, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully from the start, this is an excellent foundation for a long-term career in primary care.

You will be supported through:

  • A personalised development plan linked to the HEE Newly Qualified Pharmacist Framework and RPS post registration foundation pharmacist curriculum.
  • Completion of the Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway (PCPEP)
  • Regular supervision from an experienced clinical pharmacist
  • Protected time for learning and reflective practice
  • Opportunities to develop confidence as a newly registered prescriber

As your skills progress, you'll take on more independent clinical responsibilities, supported every step of the way.

  • Develop prescribing confidence and competence with supervision
  • Liaise with community and secondary care pharmacy colleagues to ensure continuity of care

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to clinically assess, treat and support patients using expert knowledge of medicines in specific disease areas.
  • Deliver structured medication reviews and support long-term condition management
  • Contribute to medicines optimisation and safety initiatives
  • Support prescribing audits, quality improvement, and service development
  • Provide person-centred care as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Develop prescribing confidence and competence with supervision
  • Liaise with community and secondary care pharmacy colleagues to ensure continuity of care.

Leadership, Governance and Resource Management

Promote high-quality, evidence-based and cost-effective prescribing across primary and secondary care.

  • Analyse prescribing data (PACT and ePACT) to identify trends, guide decision-making, and ensure best use of NHS resources.
  • Support practices to achieve QOF and incentive scheme targets, improving both clinical outcomes and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain the secure and responsible use of equipment, data and information systems.

Communication and Leadership

  • Act as a key link between GP practices, community pharmacies and secondary care.
  • Provide expert advice to community pharmacists on prescribing developments and service changes.
  • Monitor and manage the influence of pharmaceutical industry representatives to ensure evidence-based prescribing
