Job summary
12-14 Month Fixed-Term Contract Part-Time (25.00 hours per week) Competitive Salary Depending on Experience.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking TemporaryPractice Manager to join our friendly and well-established GP practice on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity cover for approximately 12-14 months.
To ensure a smooth transition and continuity of leadership, the successful candidate will benefit from a comprehensive handover period with the current Practice Manager prior to commencement, together with a further period of overlap following their return.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established Practice Manager, to lead a dedicated team and support the delivery of high-quality patient care with a support of a fabulous Assistant Practice Manager.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
- Overall operational management of the practice
- Leadership and management of clinical and non-clinical staff
- Human resources, recruitment, and workforce planning
- Financial management, budgeting, and reporting
- Compliance with NHS regulations, CQC standards, and contractual requirements
- Premises and facilities management
- Supporting quality improvement initiatives and service development
- Working closely with GP Partners, PCN colleagues, and external stakeholders
Job description
Operational Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the practice.
- Ensure effective systems and processes are in place to support safe and efficient patient services.
- Monitor and improve practice performance against contractual and organisational objectives.
- Develop and implement practice policies, procedures, and operational plans.
- Support service improvement initiatives and practice development.
Human Resources
- Lead, manage, and support the practice team.
- Oversee recruitment, induction, retention, appraisal, and staff development processes.
- Manage staff absence, performance, disciplinary, and grievance matters in accordance with employment legislation and practice policies.
- Promote staff wellbeing and foster a positive working culture.
Financial Management
- Assist GP Partners with financial planning and budget management.
- Monitor income and expenditure and ensure effective financial controls are maintained.
- Oversee claims, contractual payments, and enhanced service monitoring.
- Liaise with accountants and external financial advisors as required.
Governance and Compliance
- Maintain compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and NHS contractual requirements.
- Ensure all practice policies are reviewed and updated appropriately.
- Manage risk, health and safety, information governance, and business continuity arrangements.
- Oversee safeguarding processes and mandatory training compliance.
Patient Services
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred services.
- Monitor patient feedback and complaints and support continuous improvement.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in service delivery.
Strategic Development
- Work closely with the GP Partners to support the achievement of strategic objectives.
- Identify opportunities for service development and practice growth.
- Maintain effective relationships with the Primary Care Network (PCN), Integrated Care Board (ICB), NHS England, and other stakeholders.
Premises and Facilities
- Ensure the practice premises are safe, secure, and fit for purpose.
- Oversee contracts relating to maintenance, security, utilities, and cleaning services.
- Support premises improvement projects where required.
About us
The Tutbury Practice is a friendly semi-rural GP surgery located in the village of Tutbury, providing high-quality primary care to a patient population of approximately 8,500. We proudly serve patients from Tutbury and the surrounding areas, including Rolleston, Hatton, and Stretton.
Our clinical team is made up of two GP partners and five salaried GPs, supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team that includes a clinical pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, nurse practitioner, and first contact physiotherapist. We are also fortunate to have a friendly, experienced nursing team, alongside a dedicated administration and reception team who play a vital role in supporting patient care.
The practice operates a total digital triage system using accuRx, enabling efficient access to care and streamlined patient communication. We use EMIS Web and Docman to support safe, effective clinical practice and document management.
The Tutbury Practice is a training practice for GP registrars and medical students and is an active research practice, contributing to research that helps improve patient care locally and nationally. We hold regular clinical and practice meetings to support teamwork, learning, and service development, and we consistently achieve high QOF outcomes.
