Job summary
Due to expansion, we are looking for a part-time experienced Prescriptions Clerk to join our team. This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week.
The work pattern for this role will be:
- Tuesday 8.00 am to 13.00 pm
- Wednesday 13.00 pm to 18.00 pm
- Thursday 13.00 pm to 18.00 pm
- Friday 8.00 am to 13.00 pm
Flexibility to work overtime will also be expected.

Main duties of the job
The Prescriptions Clerk will provide an accurate, efficient and high- quality prescription processing service for registered patients, ensuring all prescription requests are managed safely, promptly and in accordance with Practice policies, NHS guidelines and patient care requirements.

Job responsibilities:
- Process repeat prescription requests received via online services, email, and written requests within agreed turnaround times
- Generate repeat prescriptions using the Practice clinical system, ensuring requests are processed accurately within the agreed turnaround time.
- Process patient requests for prescription items not on their list when appropriate
- Send, receive and action clinical tasks within the Practice system, escalating issues when required.
- Check medication monitoring requirements are up-to-date when processing requests.
- Send and answer tasks to and from the patients registered GP and action as appropriate.
- Add new medications to patient records from hospital discharge summaries, clinic letters, and other authorised clinical correspondence.
- Maintain accurate patient records and prescription documentation.
- Follow Practice protocols for ordering, processing, and tracking controlled drug prescriptions.
- Actively contribute as a supportive member of the Prescriptions Team
- Work collaboratively with clinicians and colleagues to ensure an efficient service for patients.
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting wider Practice administrative functions when required.
- Respond to patient enquiries in a professional, courteous, and confidential manner.
- Answer telephone calls promptly and direct enquiries appropriately.
- Ensure safe prescribing processes are followed at all times, identifying any issues requiring clinical review.
- Support the smooth operation of the prescribing function by prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
- Contribute towards continuous improvement of prescribing processes and administrative systems.
