Main duties of the job
We are looking for a proactive, reliable and forward thinking practice nurse to join our team.
The successful candidate will form part of the nursing team in providing nursing and health promotion services to the Practice population.
The successful candidatewill be expected to perform general practice nursing duties such as, but not limited to, wound care management, health and lifestyle reviews and vaccinations as part of your role.
A background in chronic disease management for example, asthma, COPD, diabetes is desirable for this role, though not essential.
The successful candidatewill also have the chance to supervise and mentor Healthcare Assistants as part of their professional development and to take part in shaping the nursing service to address new challenges.
Job description
1. Standard treatment room procedures, eg wound care
2. Immunisations and vaccinations, children and adults, administration of vaccine.
3. Standard nursing procedures including dressings, ear syringing, removal of sutures, etc.
4. Carrying out ECGs, nebulising, spirometry, hearing tests, urinalysis, checking blood glucose, blood pressures, PFR etc.
5. Taking cervical smears.
6. Giving advice on contraception and HRT.
7. Health education advising on diet, exercise, drugs, safe sex, alcohol and smoking etc.
8. Registration and NHS Health Checks.
9. Chronic disease management: eg asthma, diabetes, IHD and COPD.
10. Assist with minor surgical procedures and IUCD insertion.
11. Maintenance of equipment and instruments in common use.
12. Use of the computer for appropriate and accurate data entry.
13. Management of anaphylactic shock and cardiac arrest.
14. Knowledge of commonly used drugs, drug reaction and interaction.
15. First aid management of emergencies, injuries, burns and scalds.
16. Ensuring Mandatory training up to date.
17. Participation in educational updates and regular nurse meetings as and when arranged.
