We are seeking an experienced Clinical Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Gloucester. This part-time, temporary role involves providing leadership across two specialist neurological services: The Dean Neurological Centre and Stanley House. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality psychological care, influencing the development of psychological services, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams. As the Lead Psychologist, you will ensure that services are evidence-based and aligned with professional standards. Key responsibilities include psychological assessment, formulation, intervention, supporting service development, monitoring clinical outcomes, and demonstrating the effectiveness of rehabilitation programmes. You'll also contribute to strategic growth, provide expert consultation, and engage in research, audit, and service evaluation activities. This role offers opportunities to build relationships with stakeholders, promote the service, and ensure rehabilitation programmes evolve in response to service user needs.

You will act as the Lead Psychologist, providing specialist clinical psychology and neuropsychology expertise while maintaining oversight of the psychological components of the neurorehabilitation pathway.

Working with a high degree of clinical autonomy, you will lead on psychological assessment, formulation and intervention, ensuring that psychological services remain evidence-based, outcome-focused and aligned with professional standards and organisational objectives. You will work closely with the Care Centre Director and Clinical Director to support service development, monitor clinical outcomes and demonstrate the effectiveness of rehabilitation programmes through meaningful outcome measures and quality improvement initiatives.

As a senior clinical leader, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the neurobehavioural care pathway and support the strategic growth of neurological services. You will play an active role within the Senior Management Team and Clinical Governance processes, helping to shape innovative services and ensuring that rehabilitation programmes continue to evolve in response to service user needs and emerging best practice.

You will provide expert consultation, guidance and support to multidisciplinary colleagues, contributing to complex formulations, treatment planning and risk management. Through your leadership, you will help ensure that therapeutic interventions across the service are underpinned by robust clinical models, neuropsychological principles and evidence-based practice.

The role also offers opportunities to contribute to research, audit and service evaluation activities, helping to strengthen the evidence base for rehabilitation and drive continuous improvement. You will build strong relationships with commissioners, referrers and external stakeholders, supporting referral assessments and promoting the service within wider neurological and rehabilitation networks.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BPS accredited and HCPC approved doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society.
  • Enrolled on the BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists or demonstrable evidence of engagement in achieving this.
  • Extensive experience working as a consultant with people with acquired and progressive neurological conditions, able to demonstrate proficiency in key aspects of clinical neuropsychological practice.
  • Advanced skills required to assess, formulate, intervene and evaluate complex cases, working in conjunction with service users and the clinical team and drawing from a range of applicable therapeutic, evidence-based psychological therapies.
  • Evidence of track record in providing consultation to clinicians, carers, families and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Track record of routine engagement in evidence-based clinical practice, including single case experimental design methodology, observational recording measures, outcome measures and other objective means of articulating progress.
  • Demonstrable evidence of providing effective clinical leadership and the ability to work as a member of a team.
  • A track record of engagement in applied clinical research.
  • Evidence of successful development of new clinical services that meet the needs of people with acquired brain injury and/or progressive neurological conditions.
  • Evidence of engagement in appropriate networks.
  • High-level communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Track record of providing effective training/ teaching to others.
