This post is essential to ensure the high-quality, consistent delivery of Anatomy teaching, embedded within the wider medical sciences curriculum, and to support compliance with the General Medical Council (GMC) requirements. The role is central to the development of safe, competent, and patient-centred practitioners, providing students with a robust understanding of human structure and its relationship to function, pathology, and clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will take a leading role in the design, development, and delivery of Anatomy education across the MBChB and MSc Physician Associate (PA) programmes. You will contribute to the development of innovative, integrated learning materials that align anatomy with other core medical sciences and clinical application. This may include practical teaching (e.g. models, imaging), simulation, and technology-enhanced learning approaches. You will also play a key role in assessment design and delivery, ensuring that anatomical knowledge is assessed in clinically meaningful and applied contexts. The post holder will work closely with Phase and Programme Leads to ensure a high-quality, cohesive, and integrated student learning experience.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate engagement with scholarship or research in anatomical sciences, medical sciences, medical education, or a related field. You will contribute to the Schools academic community through research, innovation, or pedagogic development, particularly in areas that enhance integration across the medical sciences curriculum.

Job description

1. Be responsible for day-to-day management of learning and teaching sessions in applied anatomy and related healthcare topics, ensuring the integration of clinical relevance into teaching, creating learning materials and using a variety of innovative teaching methods, in consultation with the Course / Phase / Module Leads of TCMS Courses.

2. Be responsible for the design, development, and organisation of applied anatomy and related medical science across year groups within TCMS as appropriate, working with the Phase and Module leads and Lead for Clinical skills, to ensure both courses are supported in respect to relevant disciplines and aligned with professional standards, as appropriate.

3. Prepare and manage anatomy teaching spaces, including models as well as digital teaching resources.

4. Contributing to simulation-based and interprofessional (IPL) learning as required.

5. Contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of work, individually or collectively as part of a team in accordance with quality assurance processes.

6. Participation in the facilitation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) as required.

7. To carry out academic and administrative duties and participate in relevant committees.

8. To participate in recruitments activities, including student selection events and open days.

9. Conduct research or scholarly activity in clinical education, applied physiology, or related fields.

10. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences, seek external funding where appropriate. Maintaining clinical or professional competence and staying up to date with developments in the field.

11. To supervise doctoral students in their discipline.

12. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

13. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and well-being and that of other staff and students.

14.
