Are you an experienced and motivated Practice Nurse looking for a role where you can truly make a difference? Firs House Surgery, Histon is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic NMC registered nurse to join our friendly, supportive and forward thinking team, delivering high-quality care to approximately 13,000 patients.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver a full range of general practice nursing services, including the management of long-term conditions such as asthma & COPD. You will also be involved in childhood and adult immunisations, cervical screening, wound care and health promotion supporting patients to make positive lifestyle changes.
You will be expected to prove holistic care, maintain accurate clinical records in line with standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical services within the practice. The role also involves participating in clinical governance and leading infection control standards, supporting colleagues, and engaging in continuous professional development.

HOURS: Up to 37.5 per week
PAY: Dependent on experience
JOB PURPOSE
The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of Practice.

Working within a nursing team to provide excellent and safe patient care
The role has no budgetary or line management responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The post-holder needs to be a qualified nurse. Experience in a primary care setting is preferable but not essential.
They have the ability to work with all levels of staff as part of a diverse team.
They demonstrate the ability to work in a changing environment.
The post-holder shows integrity, loyalty, courteousness and respect for patients and protection of their confidentiality.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
NB It is recognised that additional training will be required for some of the tasks listed. Applicants to the post are not expected to be proficient in all tasks listed.
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Cervical Cytology
- Wound care / ulcer care
- Removal of Sutures
- Urinalysis
- ECGs
- Asthma & COPD management
- Venipuncture
- Hypertension Management
- Ear syringing
- Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurse or GPs as appropriate
- Infection control
Other tasks may include;
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
- Ordering of stock
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise lead nurse of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.
- On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
- Other delegated duties are appropriate to the post.

- A commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the post.
- A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and reported to appropriate doctor.
- A commitment to the effective use of practice and NHS resources.
- An awareness of own limitations and experience.
- To work only in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and within the Scope of Professional Practice
- Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings and training where appropriate
- Maintain NMC registration and successfully complete revalidation every 3 years.
