Job summary

We are part of Suffolk Primary Care, a group of GP practices delivering patient care across Suffolk. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Salaried GP on a fixed term basis with excellent interpersonal skills, to join our fantastic team at Haven Health Medical Practice in Felixstowe. Felixstowe is within easy reach being only 20 minutes from Ipswich.

This role is also suitable for new qualified GP's completing their training in August 2026 as well as those wanting a change.

The vacancy is for 4 or 5 sessions a week, for 6 months

Haven Health Medical Practice supports in excess of 8700 patients from a diverse range of backgrounds. We have an established team with a strong focus on customer service and on developing staff in order to deliver excellent standards of patient care. We would love to hear from candidates who are serious about health care but like to work in a fun environment.

We use SystmOne and AskmyGP to facilitate effective and efficient ways of working.

You should be able to work calmly and professionally as part of a team, with the ability to multi-task. A strong command of written and spoken English with an excellent telephone manner is a must. Good time management skills with the ability to follow protocols and/or instruction and attention to detail is essential.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the post holder will be to work independently managing your own list of patients to contact, assess and manage clinical consultations and accurate recording of medical records and your own admin.

You will use AskMyGP and SystmOne to review requests and either telephone or see Face to Face as appropriate. You will be expected to follow the prescribing formulary and arrange any further referrals and follow up's as required.

Working as part of a team, alongside other GP's, Nurse practitioners, nurses and healthcare assistants, as well as non-clinical colleagues.

Job description

  • As agreed in conjunction with colleagues, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone/video consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, On Call, checking and signing prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. To include the designated share of workflow and pathology reports.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Engaging with activities such as the QOF, LES/DES and other additional work essential for providing a full service for patients
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) and the ICB whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Duty GP Responsibilities

Responding to urgent on the day online request requests and any medical emergencies in the practice

Supporting other clinicians in the building as needed

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, CQC
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contributing to the housekeeping and updating of computer-based patient records.
  • To comply with the Practice IT policy
  • Contributing to read-coding patient data
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
