Job summary

The Older Persons Assessment Unit (OPAU) at Weston General Hospital is a 14 bedded unit. A medical assessment unit for patient's over 75. Patients are admitted to the unit from the Emergency Department and seen by consultants and other multidisciplinary teams patients are then either discharged home or transferred to a suitable long stay ward. We aim for length of stay to be no longer than 72 hours, therefore fast paced with a quick turnaround of patients.

As a Ward Clerk within this unit, you will play a key role in supporting the clinical and multidisciplinary teams by providing efficient clerical and administrative support. You will be responsible for managing the ward reception, assist with admissions, discharges and patient flow.

Working in this fast-paced, highly specialised environment requires excellent organisational and communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to liaise effectively with teams across the hospital.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated and organised Ward Clerk to join our OPAU team. This is a key supportive role, working closely with the clinical nursing team to ensure the ward operates efficiently and provides a welcoming, well-organised environment for patients, relatives, and staff.

You will be responsible for managing the ward reception, greeting and assisting patients and visitors, and ensuring all clerical and administrative tasks are kept up to date.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable, and highly organised, with excellent communication skills. You will liaise with multidisciplinary teams across the hospital and work collaboratively with nursing staff to support the smooth day-to-day running of the department.
