Salaried GP - Diabetic Specialist CareNHS
Job summary
Victoria Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced GP to run dedicated diabetic clinics for 2 sessions per week. This is a non-list-holding position, ideal for a GP looking for a focused clinical role with flexibility around days and hours worked. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of patients with type-2 diabetes, working closely with the wider primary care team, including practice nurses, healthcare assistants, and the multidisciplinary diabetes team.

Main duties of the job
Main responsibilities:
- Deliver structured diabetic review clinics, including annual reviews and interim reviews as required
- Manage and optimise glycaemic control, including initiation and titration of oral hypoglycaemics and titration of insulin in type 2 diabetics.
- Review and interpret blood results (HbA1c, renal function, lipids) and adjust management plans accordingly
- Assess and manage diabetes-related complications (nephropathy, neuropathy, cardiovascular risk)
- Provide patient education and support around lifestyle, diet, and self-management
- Liaise with community diabetes specialist nurses, and secondary care diabetes teams for complex cases
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation on the clinical system (e.g. SystmOne)
- Contribute to practice QOF/diabetes indicator achievement
- Support and mentor practice nursing staff involved in diabetes care where appropriate
- Ensure safe prescribing practices in line with local formulary and national guidelines (NICE)
- Non-personalised lists with equitable division of workload and capped workload for salaried GPs
- Paper light and embracing new technology

Victoria Surgery is an innovative and professional teaching practice in Suffolk, located on the edge of the town centre of the cathedral town of Bury St. Edmunds with close links to the A14.
Our practice team consists of 9 GPs plus a dedicated clinical team including GP trainees, and nurses. We have a dedicated management team, plus a large team of other administrative staff.
