Job summary

We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity for a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our compassionate and committed PICU and Crisis teams. The post has become available following the previous post-holder returning to training at ST4.

This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are full-time, 40 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

PICU (3 days a week)The specialty Doctor will provide senior Psychiatric input to the MDT, supporting the Consultant with reviewing patients and developing treatment plans, and in providing written and verbal evidence to Tribunals (under supervision). The unit works exclusively with patients under the MHA.

Crisis team (2 days a week)Work with the MDT to provide excellent care to patients under the Stroud and Gloucester Crisis Teams. Work with other acute in-patient mental health services in Gloucestershire and with local community teams. Providing specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment to patients in Stroud and Gloucester CRHTTs.

Job description

PICU Component of the Role (6PA):

You will provide senior Psychiatric support to Greyfriars PICU. This will include working with medical colleagues, the wider MDT and the patients supporting system.

You will be expected to independently review and assess patients on the unit and make decisions on treatment, under Consultant supervision.

You will support the Resident Doctors and nursing team to ensure that the patients physical health needs are assessed and continuously attended to.

You will support the MDT through liaison with clinical colleagues from the Crisis Resolution/Home Treatment Teams and the Recovery (Community MH) Teams to ensure that there are clear goals for a purposeful inpatient admission (including PICU specific goals) and that the earliest safe discharge (or step-down) can be achieved once these goals have been achieved.

You will support the Ward Consultant/Responsible Clinician will be providing written and oral evidence at Mental Health Act Managers Meetings and Review Tribunals.

CRHTT (4PA):

You will participate in the morning handover and MDT discussion to ensure that there is psychiatric input to the daily decision making for patients under the team.

You will provide face-to-face psychiatric assessment and reviews for both patients under the team and new referrals, predominantly at the patients home (although some work may take place at the team base). There is no expectation of lone working. These assessments will include formulating a provisional diagnosis and management plan, including consideration of risks and safety, and the most appropriate setting for their care.
