As part of the emerging Cluster Integrated Care System, and ahead of the planned merger in April 2027, we are seeking an exceptional Deputy Director of Data and Intelligence to lead our strategic data agenda across a commissioning system serving communities across Bath & North East Somerset, Swindon, Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of population health, commissioning and system transformation within an organisation managing an annual commissioning budget of approximately £8 billion.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief Officer for PHI, as the Cluster's most senior data leader, responsible for developing & delivering a modern, ambitious data & intelligence strategy. You will lead multidisciplinary teams of analysts, data scientists, engineers & intelligence professionals, ensuring that data & insight sit at the heart of decision-making across the health & care system. Working closely with executive leaders, NHS providers, local authorities, public health teams, primary care, voluntary sector partners and academic organisations, you will create an integrated intelligence environment that supports:

  • Population health management
  • Reduction of health inequalities
  • Service redesign & transformation
  • Strategic commissioning
  • Prevention & early intervention
  • Evidence-based decision making

Oversee the development of data platforms, cloud-based solutions & advanced analytical capabilities, ensuring the organisation has the tools, infrastructure & expertise required to deliver high-quality, efficient & effective healthcare.

Job description

You will oversee the development of modern data platforms, cloud-based solutions and advanced analytical capabilities, ensuring the organisation has the tools, infrastructure and expertise required to deliver high-quality, efficient and effective healthcare.We are seeking an influential leader with:

  • Significant senior-level experience leading data, analytics or intelligence functions within a complex organisation
  • Extensive experience of developing data strategies and delivering large-scale analytical programmes
  • Expertise in data science, business intelligence, analytics, data engineering or related disciplines
  • Experience working with executive leaders and system partners to inform strategic decisions
  • Strong understanding of NHS data governance, information standards and data quality requirements
  • Experience of modern data platforms, cloud technologies and advanced analytics
  • The ability to inspire, develop and lead high-performing teams
  • A commitment to improving outcomes and reducing health inequalities through the intelligent use of data
  • Educated to Master's level (or equivalent experience), you will bring strategic vision, political awareness and exceptional communication skills.
