Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Part-time 30 hours per week, Tuesday-Friday

Shifts: 7.5 hour shifts 0830-1630

We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to join our London Bridge Hospital campus, rated as 'outstanding' by the CQC. The London Bridge Hospital campus in South East London encompasses an outpatients and diagnostic centre in The Shard; the large world-class hospital based at the Tooley Street site; Private Care at Guys, which is on the top four floors of Guys Hospital Cancer Centre; and outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City.

This role is primarily based at London Bridge Hospital, with occasional support provided to The Lister Hospital, approximately twice per month according to service requirements.

Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a key role in the delivery and development of Speech & Language Therapy services within Critical Care, while also supporting patients across neurology, general medicine, surgery and oncology. Working across both inpatient and outpatient settings, you will provide evidence-based assessment and intervention for adults with swallowing and communication disorders, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and a wider network of HCA Speech & Language Therapy colleagues.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with a strong background in acute adult services and Critical Care. You will have experience managing complex swallowing and communication disorders and be confident working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Inpatient experience is preferable, but we would also consider strong applicants with solely outpatient experience. Voice therapy experience would be advantageous, however there are opportunities to undertake training in voice therapy and other specialist areas.

Job description

An experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) who is working at an advanced level in a specialist area providing care to patients that present with a range of swallowing and communication issues. This is a clinical role providing care to patients in the inpatient or outpatient setting. The workload may be somewhat specialized with independent skills to assess, formulate treatment plans and independently prioritize a caseload. Within this role there will be an element of service and business development within a specialist field, to represent and direct high-quality care, grow and develop the service line. Working with a high level of independence, the role may include mentoring and supervision of junior members of the SALT department. Student training, in-service teaching, service development and service promotion would be expected. Depending on clinical need there may be a requirement for cover at other HCA sites. You may also deputise for the Lead SALT when required.
