Job summary

  • Providing excellent customer care. Hospital visits can be stressful and daunting, so you will be a great communicator with strong customer service skills to put our patients at ease, treating them with tact and empathy
  • Coordinating and organising the attendance of patients to outpatient, day case and theatre appointments
  • Ensuring all administrative processes and enquiries are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner. Typical tasks that you will complete are:
  • Proof reading clinical letters (please note there is no audio typing in this role)
  • Monitoring waiting times, ensuring that our patients treatment pathways, from referral to treatment are accurate and up to date (you can find out more on what this means here: NHS England Referral to treatment)
  • Booking appointments from waiting lists
  • Setting up and updating clinics/Theatre bookings
  • Liaising with other health services
  • Assisting and supporting other members of the administrative team across the department or division, including dealing with telephone calls and resolving enquiries for patients, their carers and visitors.

We are looking to recruit 1 new full-time staff member. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Administrator to join the GI Administration team on a substantive contract. The successful candidate must be highly motivated with excellent communication skills, enjoy working within busy and vibrant teams, are able to prioritise their workload and can work well under pressure. Secretarial experience is desirable, knowledge of working in a hospital environment and medical terminology are all desirable for this role, but not essential.You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proven experience in dealing with service users on the telephone. You will be flexible and adaptable with excellent IT skills.You will need to enjoy the challenge of working as part of a busy team yet have the ability to use your own initiative to meet the changing needs of the department and GI service as a whole.If you feel you would be able to meet the demands of this challenging and rewarding role, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Visits to the department are welcome and encouraged.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 37.5 hours (To be confirmed on appointment)
