We are seeking an enthusiastic and relationship-focused Compassionate Communities Coordinator to lead and support the development of Compassionate Communities across Chelmsford and Maldon. This exciting role will play a vital part in helping local people, organisations and communities work together to improve wellbeing, strengthen resilience and reduce loneliness.
Funded by Essex County Council, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference across Mid Essex while helping to shape a growing and innovative programme.
Main duties of the job
As the Compassionate Communities Coordinator, you will support the implementation, coordination and evaluation of Compassionate Communities activity across Chelmsford and Maldon.
Working as part of Farleigh Hospice's Wellbeing Services Team, you will engage with local residents, businesses, charities, schools, faith groups, community leaders and volunteers to build stronger networks of support and encourage community-led approaches to wellbeing and social connectedness.
You will play a key role in helping communities become more confident in supporting people affected by serious illness, caring responsibilities, bereavement and end-of-life experiences.

The Compassionate Communities Coordinator will support the implementation, coordination and evaluation ofCompassionate Communities activity across Chelmsford and Maldon.
The postholder will
Support the development of Compassionate Communities programmes within Chelmsford and Maldon.
Build and maintain effective relationships with local businesses, charities, community organisations andeducational establishments.
Support community initiatives that help people affected by serious illness, caring responsibilities, end-of-life experiences and bereavement.
Coordinate community engagement and awareness activities that promote Compassionate Community principles.
Support the growth of a network of community champions, volunteers and partner organisations.
Assist with the delivery and reporting of the Essex County Council funded Compassionate Communities programme.
Promote shared learning across Essex and with the established Braintree Compassionate Communities programme.
Collect evidence of impact and contribute to demonstrating outcomes related to reducing loneliness, improving wellbeing and strengthening community resilience.
Compassionate Communities Coordinator Responsibilities
Build and maintain positive working relationships with community organisations, local businesses, employers,schools, colleges, faith groups and residents.
Support the growth and development of local Compassionate Communities networks.
Promote community-led approaches to reducing loneliness, social isolation and the impact of bereavement.
Encourage organisations to engage with Compassionate Communities principles.
Recruit, support and coordinate community champions and volunteers.
Organise workshops, information sessions and community events.
Promote conversations around caring, grief, loss, death and dying in a sensitive and accessible way.
Increase death literacy across organisations in Mid Essex by engaging them in activities, workshops and ortraining to increase confidence in this area.
Support local organisations to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Contribute to local and county-wide Compassionate Communities meetings and forums.
Share learning, success stories and examples of good practice.
