Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Fellow to join the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at St Michael's Hospital, part of the Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the full shift on-call rota (2nd on call), including Obstetrics and Emergency Gynaecology cover, so the post is restricted to ST3+ only. Annual leave and study leave are covered prospectively. As a valued member of the team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the unit and encouraged to contribute to the teaching of nurses, midwives and other junior doctors.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will cover 28 hours clinical work per week at ST4+ level and will take part in the ST3-5 on call rota. The remaining sessions (20 hours per week) will be protected research sessions. This will give the appointee an exciting opportunity to complete a PhD thesis subject to satisfactory progress. The proposed research project is aimed at a trainee whose career aspiration lies in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the interface with Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.

The project will build on work undertaken as part of the TULIPS (Treatment of Urinary tract (Lower) Infections in Pregnancy Screening) study and within the UTI in pregnancy research group. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to ongoing recruitment of participants to the UK Preterm Birth Network Cohort Research Programme sub-study 1 (Urine Study), and to develop a programme of studies relating to urinary pathology in pregnancy, working within the GW4 South West UTI Network.

There are multiple opportunities available for the successful candidate and these will be further discussed with the wider research team following appointment. The post will involve both clinical and non-clinical management roles, therefore we are interested in appointing a dynamic and motivated individual who has a high standard of communication skills.
