Due to the expansion of the Special Needs School Nursing Team, we are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team as a School Nurse, within Children's Complex Needs Nursing Service in Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust.

You will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Children's Nurse with at least 12 months post registration clinical experience, ideally with knowledge and experience of working with children/young people with complex and additional health needs. You will have a passion to work with children/young people with complex and additional health needs and neurodiversity and want to expand your knowledge and skills of working children/young people who attend special needs schools.

You will work within one of the specialist school(s) in the Pennine and Blackburn with Darwen/Central and West Lancashire footprint of Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust. You will be visible in the school setting to offer support and advice to educational staff on health-related issues that affect the children within the school setting.

Main duties of the job

As a School Nurse, you will be responsible for completing children/young people's health assessments, writing school health needs plans, working alongside other specialist health services, school staff, parents and carers in care plan implementation. You will also contribute to children/young people's Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCP).

Within the scope of your role, you will support Senior School Nurses with safeguarding caseloads. You will be responsible for completing statutory Child in Care review health assessments and report writing.

As part of your role, you will deliver evidence-based training packages and updates to education-setting staff, to ensure that they are able to meet the health needs of children/young people, enabling them to access education. Health care training packages could include administration of medication, enteral feeds, tracheostomy care, suction, and oxygen therapy.

It is essential you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work in partnership with the child/young person, their parent/carers, teachers and other health care professionals.

It is essential that you can work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. You will need to be able to travel between schools/health care bases.
