We have exciting opportunities for Registered Nurses to join our specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Warwick. Full time and part time positions are available.

You will help our patients and their loved ones to get on top of difficult symptoms, deal with any physical pain and reduce emotional distress.

We provide an in-house training programme to support your professional development, including progression opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Our Registered Nurses:

  • Deliver high quality, evidence-based palliative care
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of patient care
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team with doctors and other healthcare professionals
  • Act as a mentor for junior staff and students

We would love to hear from Registered Nurses with:

  • NMC registration
  • Post-registration experience
  • The right to work in the UK (we cannot support with sponsorship)

This is a nursing role, providing adult healthcare, so it will require an enhanced DBS check, including the adults' barred list. We will cover the cost of this check.

Job description

To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of patient care. To deliver and maintain high-quality, evidence-based palliative care within a multidisciplinary team framework and contribute to evidence-based development of clinical practice.

  • To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised holistic care.
  • Act as a positive role model to others and ensure that practice of specialist palliative care is evidence-based and promoted within the clinical area.
  • Promote a patient-centred approach to care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, carers and other relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Act as a clinical resource and mentor so students, junior staff and those on placement to Myton achieve their learning needs and expertise is shared with the wider health economy.
  • To prioritise patient care on clinical need and organise workload as appropriate for a team of patients and ensure handover is effective and efficient at all times.
  • Ensure that documentation is completed accurately and legibly in accordance with local and NMC guidance and confidentiality is maintained using Caldicott Guidelines.
  • Provide emotional / spiritual support to patients and families throughout the disease and dying trajectory and ensure effective communication at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing and care teams and have a proactive approach in facilitating discharge and ensure that standards of discharge are implemented and maintained in liaison with the discharge coordinator.
  • Be proactive in preparing and delivering clinical information to promote the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary team, acting as an equal member.
  • Liaise with other multidisciplinary team members, consultants and key workers to ensure continuity of care for patients.
  • To attend and present at case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure effective communication with all members of the hospice multidisciplinary team and primary care teams, acting as the patient's advocate.
  • To participate in clinical audit as required by the organisation's policies and the clinical governance agenda.
  • To ensure that high standards of nursing care are given and maintained.
  • Actively contribute to developing the service to enhance the care and support available to patients and families.
  • Be responsible for own continued professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge across the palliative care trajectory.
  • To be aware of the political and national influences affecting clinical care, such as NICE guidance / End of Life Care Strategy.
  • To abide by the guidelines and Code of Conduct of the Nursing & Midwifery Council and the regulations and standards of the Care Quality Commission.
  • Ensure the ward environment is safe, clean and tidy and adhere and comply with the Hospice's Infection Control Policy, dress code, and all other policies and guidance.
  • Work at all times in accordance with Myton policies, guidelines and procedures.
