Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support the clinical team by delivering a range of patient care services, including taking blood samples, recording observations such as blood pressure, height and weight, performing ECGs, administering B12, and supporting diabetic health checks. You will assist GPs and nurses with clinical procedures, maintain accurate patient records, support chronic disease management programmes, and help ensure high standards of infection prevention, patient confidentiality, and health and safety are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
Taking blood specimens and preparing for laboratory testing, completing relevant paper and electronic request forms
Taking manual BP and pulse measurements
Testing urine samples, and accurately recording the information in patient records and passing to relevant clinician
Taking measurements of height and weight
Performing ECGs and recording in patient records
B12 injections
Diabetic health checks
Setting up procedure trolleys for doctors
Assisting doctors and nurses as required
Carrying out patient interviews in relation to memory assessments and others as required
Anticoagulation monitoring
Accurate and consistent record keeping
Call and recall systems in operation for chronic disease management programmes and retinal screening
Collecting and entering clinical information onto computer templates in accordance with GMS contract requirements
Occasional chaperone for doctors carrying out intimate examinations
Maintaining supplies of specimen bottles, containers, request forms
Maintaining supplies of vaccines and other items as requested
Cleaning and sterilising equipment (minimal as now single use)
Maintaining IP&C standards and assisting the Nurse manager/Deputy Nurse manager with implementing any changes.
Co-ordinating collection of clinical waste and supply of related equipment
Ensuring health and safety and infection control procedures are observed
Ensuring patient confidentiality is observed
Attending such training courses as may from time to time become available and be deemed appropriate by the practice
Other duties clinical and non-clinical deemed necessary and appropriate

As part of the Yorkshire Coast and Wolds PCN in East Yorkshire and Symphonie PCN in Hull, we are a forward-thinking organisation striving to provide high quality patient care.
We are led by 9 GP-Partners, with support from Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurse-Prescribers, Long-term Conditions Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.
The Nursing Team is led by our Nurse Manager and includes experienced Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. Although we provide services across three practice sites, we work as one team, supporting each other to deliver high-quality patient care.

The clinical team is supported by trained Care Navigators, Dispensers and Administrators.
