Key responsibilities include: Providing maintenance support across multiple care homes as required. Completing routine safety and compliance inspections, including checks on fire safety, water systems, emergency lighting, equipment, and other essential services. Carrying out general repairs and maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and building work.

Main duties of the job

As a Regional Maintenance Support operative with Avery Healthcare, you will take on a mobile role providing essential maintenance coverage when local support is unavailable for care homes across England. Your primary responsibilities comprise executing maintenance tasks, routine compliance checks, minor repairs, and supporting property improvement projects. You will independently operate at various sites, ensuring each care home remains a compliant and safe environment for both residents and team members. You will also assist with refurbishments, manage company vehicle upkeep, organize training sessions for new colleagues, and communicate updates with Estate Managers.

  • Training and supporting new maintenance colleagues in statutory checks and maintenance procedures.
  • Communicating with Estates Managers regarding completed works, compliance requirements, and site updates.
  • Assisting with refurbishment and improvement projects, including planning, risk assessments, and material procurement.
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety across all work activities.
  • Managing company vehicle responsibilities, including basic upkeep and expense reporting.

ABOUT YOUWe're looking for someone who is practical, reliable, and confident working independently across multiple locations.

You will have:

  • Experience in general building maintenance or a trade-related environment.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety procedures, including manual handling and COSHH.
  • Practical skills across a range of maintenance disciplines such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and basic electrical work.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A flexible approach and willingness to travel extensively, including occasional overnight stays.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and work on your own initiative.
  • A full UK driving licence.
